What Is Pancit?

Pancit is a Filipino dish. There are many different types of pancit, but it always features rice noodles and vegetables (and often meat, such as pork or chicken).

How to Make Pancit

You’ll find the full, step-by-step recipe below — but here’s a brief overview of what you can expect when you make homemade pancit:

  1. Soften the rice noodles.
  2. Cook the onions and garlic in oil, then add the remaining ingredients.
  3. Cook until the cabbage is soft, then stir in the softened noodles.
  4. Garnish with lemon wedges.

Best Noodles for Pancit

Pancit is traditionally made with vermicelli rice noodles. The great thing about rice noodles? You don’t have to boil them! Just soften them in water and you’re good to go. If you don’t have rice noodles on hand, you can use udon or chow mein noodles.

How to Store Pancit

Store your leftover pancit in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to four days or freeze for up to three months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight.

“Awesome starter recipe,” according to LittleMsBozzi. “I added in some fish sauce, Maggi seasoning, shrimp, and soft-boiled eggs and it was incredible.”

“This is my second time making it and it's so good,” raves SweetCatalyst. “The mixture of soy sauce, garlic, onion and lemon juice are what make the dish. It only needed a sprinkle of salt to make the taste pop.”

“I make this all the time now,” says Sara Vogt. “Leftovers warm up great and it's quick, easy and cheap! Everyone I make this for begs for more!”

Dal Makhani (Indian Lentils)

Dal Makhani (Indian Lentils)

Ever go to an Indian restaurant and wonder how they make those lentils? I hated lentils before I discovered Indian food. Then I scoured the internet to figure out how they achieved them, and through mixing and matching recipes and methods on videos, I've arrived at this recipe, which I think is pretty close. This version is very rich, but you can leave out the cream to make it lighter. Kasuri methi (fenugreek leaves) is almost impossible to find in the U.S., even in NYC, but it gives this dish something very special.

Dilled Shrimp (Rejer)

Dilled Shrimp (Rejer)

You can't have a Danish holiday meal without endless platters of dilled shrimp. Served on a red serving platter, it makes the perfect Christmas dish that will have your guests heaping up pyramids of shrimp on their plates. No Scandinavian buffet would be complete without it!

Shrimp Cocktail Cream Cheese Dip

This creamy layered shrimp dip with cocktail sauce and green onions looks so pretty! I like to sprinkle some sliced black olives on top for a nice flavor twist. It's always a favorite at parties.

Meat Pie

Meat Pie

This meat pie is delicious! I got it from my husband's mother. She is French so I believe this is a French meat pie recipe. Beef, pork, and potato are all nicely spiced and baked together. It's yummy and pretty easy to make too! It's best served fresh, but you can also make it ahead and freeze or refrigerate it. Serve the pie by itself or with a beef gravy.

Birria de Chivo Estilo Jalisco (Mexican Braised Goat)

Goat meat marinated in a sauce with ancho chiles and spices, then slowly braised until soft. This traditional dish known as birria is always accompanied with refried beans and corn tortillas, and is normally served for special occasions.
