Puff Pastry Shells

These are fairly simple to make, and once baked the real fun begins, as they can hold so many amazing fillings, both sweet and savory. The key is making sure your puff pastry dough is very firm, and very cold, preferably still partially frozen, before you start cutting it. You want nice clean cuts, because if you mash the layers of pastry together, your shells will not rise as high, and they can also bake into some strange shapes.

Ingredients

Original recipe (1X) yields 4 servings

  • 1 egg, beaten

  • 2 tablespoons water

  • 4 sheets frozen puff pastry

Directions

  1. Beat egg and water together in a small bowl.

  2. Cut two rounds from each sheet of puff pastry using a 3-inch round cutter, forming 8 circles. Use a 2 1/2-inch round cutter to cut through 4 of the rounds. Place entire cut round on top of an un-cut round. Brush each with egg mixture.

  3. Bake in the preheated oven until puffed and golden, 20 to 25 minutes.

Kala Chola Pakistani-Style

Kala Chola Pakistani-Style

This Pakistani kala chola recipe is made with kala chana, which is in the family of garbanzo beans. It can be served as a meal with rice or just on its own. You can find kala chana in Indian/Pakistani stores or in the Indian/Pakistani section of an international store. It is really tasty and very popular in my home. According to my mom (a diabetic), kala chana are high in fiber and low in fat. It is great for people with blood sugar problems. Serve by garnishing with onion and cilantro with basmati rice. Hope you all enjoy it.

The Best Lamb Chops

The Best Lamb Chops

These lamb chops with garlic and rosemary are so flavorful — they really are the best! When your MIL is 100% Greek, you know you will have to fix lamb chops for her son! This is her recipe and it always impresses guests. The chops are easy to cook in the oven and ready to serve in under 30 minutes.

Cabbage Veggie Cream Soup

Cabbage Veggie Cream Soup

Talk about great flavor! This soup is unique and yummy- definitely put in the ingredients that sound bizarre like vinegar and Tabasco®. Tons of compliments await! Serve with a dollop of sour cream on top.

Just Like Wendy's Chili

Just Like Wendy's Chili

After trying several Wendy's chili recipe clones and adjusting them to my tastes, I've concocted what I think is the best. Serve it topped with finely diced white onions and/or shredded cheese. Enjoy!

Baked Gochujang Chicken Thighs

Baked Gochujang Chicken Thighs

These chicken thighs are baked with gochujang, a Korean red chili paste that is tangy, salty, and very hot. The heat in this sauce is moderated by sesame oil, rice wine vinegar, honey, soy sauce, ginger, and garlic. If you like it hot, simply add more gochujang until your taste buds yell, "Uncle!" We like this with simple steamed broccoli and white rice.
