I tried this one evening and now my family asks for it all the time.

Chef John's Cuban Bread

Chef John's Cuban Bread

This Cuban bread recipe uses lard and a double hit of yeast plus a fermented starter. All of this adds extra flavor and lift. I didn't think I liked Cuban sandwiches until I had one on real Cuban bread (pan Cubano) — what a difference! If you want to keep your starter going, reserve 1/4 cup of it before adding the rest to the dough.

Cinnamon-Sugar Popcorn

This sweet popcorn recipe makes a lot, so either invite your friends or store it in an airtight container for later. I first tried this when I was visiting my sister in West Virginia. After trying it, I loved it. However, I neglected to ask her for the recipe. Ten years later, I have it, and I still love it! The kids can help make it if you use an air popper (which I did to reduce fat and calories — there's enough in the butter). I used my deep-dish lasagna pan to cook it in the oven. You can use a roasting pan or a large, deep-dish pan.

One-Pot Spaghetti with Meat Sauce

One-Pot Spaghetti with Meat Sauce

One-pot spaghetti puts Italian sausage, pasta sauce, and noodles together for a dish you can have on the table in less than 45 minutes. It doesn't get much easier than this by cooking everything in one pot. Switch it up by using ground beef, chicken, or turkey along with any other of your favorite ingredients, such as sliced mushrooms.
