As much as we enjoy working from home or spending time at the office, sometimes neither environment works. Before frustration takes over, here are ten places in Singapore where you can work for free. All are within a 15-minute walk from an MRT station.

1. CapitaSpring A three-minute walk from Raffles Place MRT. Located in the heart of the CBD, CapitaSpring offers a quiet workspace surrounded by greenery. Work pods resembling giant bird cages are available, along with long benches and small round tables on the balcony. Charging outlets are available. Note that a booking is now required to visit the garden.

2. Our Tampines Hub A six-minute walk from Tampines MRT. This popular spot has many tables scattered around the hub. Free Wireless@SG WiFi is available. While not fully air-conditioned, the area is generally breezy and comfortable.

3. SMU School of Business A one-minute walk from Bras Basah MRT. The Singapore Management University campus has vacant tables and chairs. The workspace at the School of Business has a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Priority is given to SMU students and staff, so it is best to visit after exam periods.

4. Republic Polytechnic A one-minute walk from Woodlands North MRT. Air-conditioned walkways and private work booths are available. Wooden benches are located along the corridors. The library has many tables and individual booths with charging stations. Students and staff are given priority, so avoid exam periods.

5. Khoo Teck Puat Hospital An 11-minute walk from Yishun MRT. An alfresco workspace is available near the main taxi drop-off point. The area is surrounded by greenery with soft sunlight. Nearby food options include Subway and the hospital canteen.

6. City Sprouts (Henderson) A 14-minute walk from Redhill MRT. Located at the former Henderson Secondary School, now an urban farm. A large open-space canteen is available with charging ports and free Wireless@SG WiFi. Five food stalls offer Japanese cuisine, Hakka noodles, coffee, and more.

7. Jurong East Street 21 A nine-minute walk from Chinese Garden MRT. Located under Block 224, this smart void deck offers a quiet workspace. Free WiFi and charging outlets are not available. A nearby 7-Eleven is a two-minute walk away.

8. Tzu Chi Humanistic Youth Centre A ten-minute walk from Yishun MRT. The study area offers free WiFi, water coolers, and charging ports at each table. The open-air concept with fans provides good ventilation.

9. Temasek Shophouse A four-minute walk from Dhoby Ghaut MRT. An air-conditioned lobby with cushioned seats and tables is available. Charging ports are not available, but it is a good spot for quick work in a comfortable environment.

10. Central Library A five-minute walk from Bugis MRT. With 11 levels open to the public, tables and charging ports are available. Some levels require seat booking through the NLB portal. Other popular libraries include Harbourfront Library and Bishan Library, both within five minutes of their respective MRT stations.
